Who says you have to wait until December for a little Christmas magic?

Christmas in July is the perfect excuse to slow down, have some fun, and bring a little holiday cheer into the middle of summer. Whether you love the twinkle of Christmas lights, cozy stories, festive treats, or simply spending time together as a family, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Christmas in July without waiting another five months.

Here are a few of my favorite ideas for creating a little Christmas magic this summer!

🎅 1. Have a Christmas Movie Night

Turn down the air conditioning, grab your favorite blankets, and have a Christmas movie night!

Let everyone in the family pick a favorite holiday movie. You could even make it a double feature with a Christmas classic followed by a Christmas movie you haven’t seen before.

Don’t forget the popcorn and maybe some hot chocolate, even if it’s 90 degrees outside. 😉☕

📚 2. Read a Christmas Story

Christmas and books just seem to belong together.

Pick out a few favorite Christmas books and have a family storytime. Younger children can choose the books, snuggle up with their favorite stuffed animals, and make an evening of it.

🍪 3. Bake Christmas Cookies… in July!

Why should December get all the cookies?

Pull out your favorite cookie cutters and make Christmas cookies in the middle of summer. You can decorate them with red and green frosting, sprinkles, or whatever colors make you think of Christmas.

If you don’t want to turn on the oven during the summer heat, try making no-bake Christmas treats instead!

🎁 4. Have a “Christmas in July” Gift Exchange

This doesn’t have to be expensive or even involve buying anything.

Set a small dollar limit or make the gifts completely homemade. Kids can create something for another family member, write a special note, or put together a “coupon” for a chore they will do.

The goal isn’t the gift itself. It’s the thought behind it.

🎄 5. Decorate a Christmas Tree… or Just One Little Corner

You don’t have to pull every Christmas decoration out of storage.

Put up a mini Christmas tree, hang a strand of lights, or decorate a small corner of your home with a little Christmas cheer.

You could even let the kids create their own Christmas decorations using craft supplies you already have around the house.

🧊 6. Make a Christmas-Themed Summer Treat

Combine the best of both seasons!

Try Christmas-shaped popsicles, red and green fruit skewers, peppermint ice cream, or a festive Christmas punch.

You could even have a “Christmas in July” ice cream bar and let everyone create their own sundae.

Because honestly, Christmas + ice cream sounds like a pretty great combination.

🏖️ 7. Have a Christmas Beach Day

If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach or even have a backyard pool, why not celebrate Christmas somewhere unexpected?

Build a sand snowman, decorate a beach umbrella with Christmas lights, or wear Santa hats while you swim.

Christmas magic doesn’t have to look exactly like it does in December. Sometimes it’s even more fun when you put your own summer spin on it!

✉️ 8. Send a Christmas Card… Early!

Use Christmas in July as a reminder to reconnect with someone you love.

Have the kids make Christmas cards for grandparents, friends, or family members. You could even write a letter to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.

It might be July, but there’s never a bad time to send a little kindness.

🎶 9. Turn Up the Christmas Music

Yes, you have permission.

Put on your favorite Christmas playlist and have a family dance party!

You might get some strange looks from the neighbors, but that’s part of the fun.

✨ 10. Create Your Own Christmas Tradition

Perhaps the best part of Christmas in July is that there are no rules.

You don’t have to do everything on this list. You don’t have to decorate your entire house or spend a lot of money.

Maybe your family reads one Christmas story together.

Maybe you have Christmas cookies and watch a movie.

Maybe you go on a Christmas-themed adventure.

Or maybe you simply take an evening to enjoy each other’s company.

The best traditions are often the simple ones that become memories your family looks forward to year after year.

A little Christmas Magic goes a long way and Christmas in July is a fun reminder that we don’t have to wait for a particular date on the calendar to create moments of joy.

So whether you’re baking cookies, reading a Christmas story, watching a holiday movie, or having a Christmas beach day, I hope you find a little time this summer to make some magical memories with the people you love.
