  • The Power of Celebrating Small Wins This Winter

The Power of Celebrating Small Wins This Winter

As the winter months settle in, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Between colder days, busy schedules, and the pressures of the holiday season, many of us focus on what’s still undone or what feels out of reach. But what if this winter, we shifted our perspective? What if, instead of waiting for the “big” moments to celebrate, we started finding joy in the smaller victories?

Small wins often go unnoticed in our fast-paced world, but they hold incredible power. They remind us of our progress, boost our confidence, and add moments of joy to our days. Celebrating these small victories can be the key to staying motivated and present this winter.

There’s a reason we feel good when we accomplish even the tiniest task—our brain rewards us! Achieving a goal, no matter how small, releases dopamine, the “feel-good” chemical. This natural boost of happiness helps us build momentum and encourages us to keep going. Small wins also serve as stepping stones to larger goals, giving us the energy and confidence to tackle bigger challenges over time.

More importantly, celebrating small victories teaches us to shift our focus. Instead of dwelling on what’s not done, we start appreciating the progress we’re making. This mindset can transform even the toughest winter days into opportunities for growth and gratitude.

Before we can truly celebrate progress, it’s important to pause and reflect on what we’re working toward. Winter is the perfect season for introspection—a time to slow down and think about what truly matters to you. Ask yourself:

    • What are my priorities right now?

    • What small steps can I take toward achieving my goals?

By taking the time to identify what you really want, you can approach your goals with clarity and purpose. Instead of trying to do everything at once, focus on one small step at a time. Each small win builds momentum, bringing you closer to what you envision for yourself.

Not every win has to be groundbreaking to be meaningful. Here are some examples of small victories worth celebrating this season:

    • Reflecting and journaling about your goals for the new year.

    • Organizing one small corner of your home or workspace.

    • Staying consistent with a new habit, like drinking more water or taking five minutes to meditate.

    • Making time for meaningful connections, whether it’s a quick phone call or a heartfelt text to a friend.

    • Simply taking a moment to rest and recharge without guilt.

Sometimes, the smallest moments—like finishing a good book or enjoying a peaceful cup of tea—are the ones that carry the most weight.

Celebrating doesn’t have to mean throwing a party (although, if that’s your style, go for it!). Here are simple ways to acknowledge and honor your small victories:

    • Keep a “Small Wins” Jar: Write down each win on a slip of paper and add it to a jar. At the end of the month or season, revisit your accomplishments and celebrate your progress.

    • Reflect and Share: Take a moment to journal about what you’ve achieved or share it with a close friend or family member. Sometimes, saying it out loud makes it feel even more real.

    • Reward Yourself: Treat yourself to something you love, like a cozy night in, a favorite dessert, or a new book.

    • Pause and Be Present: Simply take a deep breath and savor the satisfaction of a job well done.

Celebrating small victories pairs beautifully with gratitude. When we reflect on what we’ve accomplished, it naturally leads us to appreciate the journey. Try combining the two practices by writing down three things you’re proud of or grateful for at the end of each day or at the beginning of the following day. Over time, you’ll build a collection of moments that remind you just how far you’ve come.

Winter may be cold, but it’s also a season of quiet growth and reflection. By pausing to consider what you truly want and focusing on small, purposeful steps, you’ll find that even the smallest wins add up to something meaningful.

Progress doesn’t have to be grand to be worth celebrating. These moments of joy and accomplishment create a sense of fulfillment that carries us through the season.

So, take a moment today to pause, reflect, and celebrate. You’ve done more than you realize, and that’s worth honoring.

What small win are you celebrating this winter? Share it below—I’d love to hear!

  • Finding Peace Amid the Post-Christmas Chaos

Finding Peace Amid the Post-Christmas Chaos

The holidays are over, but life hasn’t slowed down. It feels like the Christmas whirlwind has left behind more than memories—my house is still a toy-filled disaster, and my to-do list seems to grow every day. Despite the chaos, I’m determined to find moments of peace and create habits that help me pull back into life rather than letting it sweep me away.

One tradition that helped ground us this year was an Epiphany activity we did as a family and included ones for the pets—albeit a few days late. We each chose a virtue to guide us through the year. Out of a list of 25 options, our guiding lights became Compassion, Love, Mercy, Humility, Kindness, Patience, and Peace. It was such a simple but meaningful way to anchor ourselves, and I can already feel these words shaping how we approach the days ahead.

If you’d like to try this with your family, here’s the list we used:

    Grace • Mercy • Love • Faithfulness • Peace • Patience • Kindness • Joy • Rest • Adventure • Attention • Imagination • Faith • Compassion • Friendship • Song • Art • Generosity • Time • Humility • Persistence • Dedication • Inspiration • Comfort • Wholeness

Each person picks one virtue from the hat to embrace as their personal mantra for the year. These words have become a gentle reminder to live intentionally, even amid the chaos.

Here are some ways I’m working on bringing peace and intentionality into the new year:

    1. Start Small Habits, Even Late

I’ve been meaning to start journaling but haven’t yet. Instead of letting the delay discourage me, I’m reminding myself that starting today is better than waiting for the perfect moment. Whether it’s journaling, meditating, or setting aside quiet time, small habits can make a big difference in grounding us.

    2. Embrace the Mess with Grace

My home is far from organized right now, but I’ve found that tackling one small area at a time helps ease the overwhelm. Start with a toy bin or a single drawer—it’s amazing how a little progress can create mental clarity. I started with a bookshelf then moved onto painting an entire room. I definitely have more to be completed in the next few weeks. Give yourself grace; the mess doesn’t define you.

    3. Anchor Your Days with Meaning

Reflecting on our family’s chosen virtues has been a grounding practice. It reminds me to approach each day with intention, even in the chaos. Consider choosing a word or phrase that resonates with you and letting it guide your actions this year.

    4. Pause and Reconnect

Slowing down doesn’t happen by accident. Whether it’s a few quiet moments over coffee or an impromptu family walk, create pockets of peace in your day. These little pauses help you step back, breathe, and appreciate the beauty of the present.

    5. Celebrate Imperfection

Life isn’t perfect, and neither am I. The missed journal entries, the delayed virtues, the disorganized toys—all of it is part of this messy, beautiful journey. Let’s give ourselves permission to embrace where we are, even as we work toward something better.

As we step into this new year, let’s remember that it’s okay to be a little late, a little messy, and a little overwhelmed. The important thing is that we keep moving forward—choosing peace, creating space, and finding joy in the journey.

What’s your guiding word for the year? I’d love to hear how you’re finding peace and purpose in this season of life.

  • Winter Solstice: A Moment of Reflection, Release, and Renewal

Winter Solstice: A Moment of Reflection, Release, and Renewal

Today marks the winter solstice—the longest night of the year and a turning point as the light begins to return. It’s a beautiful reminder of life’s rhythms, how darkness makes way for light, and how every ending holds the promise of a new beginning.

The solstice invites us to pause, reflect, and connect with ourselves and the world around us. It’s a time to look back on the year that has passed—the highs and lows, the lessons learned, and the love shared. Each experience has shaped us, guiding us to this moment of stillness and renewal.

One of my favorite ways to mark this day is by throwing my worries into the fire. There’s something deeply freeing about naming the things that weigh on me, writing them down, and offering them to the flames. As I watch the fire consume them, I imagine my worries dissolving, their hold on me breaking, and their energy transforming into something lighter and brighter.

After letting go of the past, I turn my focus to the future. I write down my intentions—dreams, goals, and the love I hope to bring into the new year. I offer these hopes to the fire, not to burn them away, but to send them out into the universe, letting their energy soar. In this act, I feel a quiet confidence that my intentions will find their way, carried by light and love.

The solstice is also a celebration of connection—to ourselves, to each other, and to the cycles of nature that remind us we are all part of something greater. Even in the longest night, there is the promise of dawn, just as in life’s challenges, there is always the potential for growth and renewal.

As we move forward from this day of reflection, we step into the glow of Christmas and the hope of a new year. May this time bring you peace, joy, and love. May you find the courage to release what no longer serves you and the inspiration to embrace the possibilities ahead.

So tonight, as the solstice invites us to pause, take a moment to reflect on what this year has meant to you. Let the fire carry your worries away, and send your intentions out into the world with hope and love. Trust that they will be heard and held, both by the universe and within your own heart.

Wishing you warmth, light, and countless blessings as we journey into 2025 together. Sending love and gratitude!

Whether you’ve been eagerly waiting to press play on your holiday playlist or you’re just starting to get into the spirit, today is the perfect day to embrace all the magic this season has to offer.

    Why December 1st Feels Magical

As the first day of December, this date marks the start of advent calendars, twinkling decorations, and the buzz of Christmas preparations. It’s a reminder to pause and appreciate the beauty around us—whether it’s snowflakes blanketing the ground, sparkling lights adorning homes, or the laughter of loved ones gathering together.

For many, December 1st is a day to bring out cherished traditions or even create new ones. It’s not just about the countdown to December 25th; it’s about finding joy in every moment along the way.

Ways to Celebrate the First Day of Christmas Cheer

The holiday season is about giving. Start small today by performing a random act of kindness, whether it’s buying a coffee for a stranger, donating to a toy drive, or simply sharing a smile.

    4. Light a Candle and Reflect

    5. Watch a Holiday Movie

Start your Christmas movie marathon with a classic like Home Alone, Elf, or The Polar Express. Gather your family, make some popcorn, and enjoy!

    6. Bake Something Sweet

December 1st is the perfect moment to let go of stress and welcome the joy and wonder of the holiday season.

    Tips for Muffin Success

    • Don’t Overmix: Once the flour is added, mix just until combined to avoid dense muffins.
    • Measure with Love: While the recipe calls for 1 1/4 cups of chocolate chips, feel free to add more (or less) based on your heart’s desire.
    • Use Pumpkin Puree: Be sure to use plain pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, which contains added spices and sugar.

  • Create a Gratitude Tree for Thanksgiving

Create a Gratitude Tree for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on what we’re thankful for and to share those sentiments with loved ones. This year, why not add a heartfelt and decorative touch to your Thanksgiving table with a DIY Gratitude Tree? It’s simple, fun, and serves as a meaningful centerpiece that your family and friends will love.

Here’s how you can create your own Gratitude Tree:

    Materials You’ll Need:

    • Branches (real or faux)
    • A sturdy vase, jar, or decorative pot
    • Colorful paper or cardstock
    • Scissors
    • Hole punch (optional)
    • Ribbon, twine, or string
    • Pens or markers

    Step-by-Step Instructions:

    1. Gather Your Branches
Take a stroll outside to collect a few branches, or pick up faux branches from a craft store. Look for branches with an interesting shape and plenty of spots to hang your leaves. Arrange them in a vase, jar, or pot filled with rocks, sand, or floral foam to keep them steady.
    2. Cut Out Your Leaves
Use colorful paper or cardstock to cut out leaf shapes. You can find templates online or freehand the shapes for a more personal touch. Aim for leaves that are big enough to write on but small enough to hang neatly on the branches.
    3. Add Holes for Hanging
Use a hole punch to make a small hole near the stem of each leaf. If you don’t have a hole punch, you can fold a small piece of tape into a loop to stick the leaf onto the branches.
    4. Write Your Gratitude
Hand out the leaves to everyone in your family or guests and ask them to write down something they’re thankful for. Encourage meaningful, thoughtful responses to reflect the spirit of the season.
    5. Hang the Leaves
Tie a piece of ribbon, twine, or string through the hole in each leaf and hang them on the branches. Space them out evenly, letting the colorful leaves bring your tree to life.

    Why a Gratitude Tree?

This craft is more than just a decoration—it’s an activity that brings people together. It’s a chance to share memories, express appreciation, and create a lasting reminder of the gratitude that surrounds us.

Place your Gratitude Tree at the center of your Thanksgiving table or in a prominent spot in your home. As the holiday season progresses, you can continue to add leaves, building a tree full of gratitude and love.

    Make It Personal

Feel free to get creative with your Gratitude Tree! You can decorate the vase, add fairy lights, or even use themed paper to match your Thanksgiving décor. The possibilities are endless.

This craft is perfect for kids, too! Little ones will love cutting out leaves, writing (or drawing) their thanks, and hanging them on the tree. It’s a wonderful way to include everyone in the spirit of gratitude.

    Share Your Creation

I’d love to see your Gratitude Trees! If you try this craft, share your photos on Instagram or Facebook and tag me @spiritedessenceworks. Let’s spread the joy of Thanksgiving together.

Happy crafting, and may your Thanksgiving be filled with love, laughter, and gratitude!

  • Celebrating World Kindness Day: Simple Acts That Make a Difference

Celebrating World Kindness Day: Simple Acts That Make a Difference

Today, November 13th, we celebrate World Kindness Day! This global observance, established in 1998, encourages people around the world to spread kindness and positivity in their communities. It’s a reminder that small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, lifting others and spreading joy. In a world that can sometimes feel fast-paced and overwhelming, today offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and make a positive impact through simple, meaningful gestures.

Whether it’s in a big way or a small moment, showing kindness enriches our lives and those around us. Here are a few simple ways to show kindness throughout your day:

    1. Smile at Someone

A genuine smile can be incredibly powerful. It can brighten someone’s day and show them they’re seen and appreciated. As you go about your day, take a moment to smile at those you encounter – from family members at home to the barista at your local coffee shop.

    2. Give a Compliment

Compliments are free, but they’re priceless to those who receive them. Whether you admire someone’s creativity, appreciate their hard work, or simply love their outfit, share your positive thoughts. Compliments remind people of their value and strengths.

    3. Write a Note of Encouragement

Handwritten notes have a special charm, but even a quick text or email can make a difference. Reach out to a friend, family member, or coworker with a message of encouragement or gratitude. Let them know they matter to you, and that they’re doing great!

    4. Offer Help to Someone in Need

If you see someone struggling with bags, holding a door, or needing directions, offer a hand. These small, thoughtful gestures show compassion and make others’ lives a bit easier.

    5. Donate to a Local Charity or Cause

Giving back to your community is a powerful way to spread kindness. Whether it’s a donation to a food bank, a clothing drive, or a charity close to your heart, supporting those in need makes a significant impact.

    6. Listen Attentively

In our busy lives, it’s easy to become distracted, but listening to someone wholeheartedly can be an act of kindness. When someone shares their thoughts with you, put away your phone, make eye contact, and give them your full attention.

    7. Share a Meal or a Treat

Bringing coffee or a snack for a friend or colleague is a simple, thoughtful gesture that shows you care. Or, you could even leave a surprise treat for someone to discover, spreading a bit of sweetness in their day.

    8. Be Kind to Yourself

Don’t forget that kindness includes self-care. Spend a few minutes today doing something that brings you joy, whether it’s reading a book, going for a walk, or taking a relaxing break. Remember, you can share kindness with others more easily when you’re also gentle and compassionate with yourself.

    9. Send a “Thinking of You” Message

Take a moment to reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. A simple “thinking of you” text or call can go a long way in letting someone know they’re remembered and valued.

    10. Show Gratitude

Expressing gratitude is an easy way to practice kindness. Say thank you to those around you, even for the small things they do. It can be thanking a colleague for their teamwork, a friend for their advice, or your loved ones for their support.

World Kindness Day reminds us that kindness isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about everyday actions that make people feel valued and loved. So today, let’s aim to make kindness a habit, not just a one-day event. Remember, a small act of kindness can have a lasting impact – on someone else’s day and on yours as well.
