Thanksgiving is the time of year, we stop and recognize how blessed we are. To top it off on Thanksgiving day, we get to celebrate our spectacular and extraordinary lives with family and friends. Then, not only do we get to recognize our lives being so blessed but also the amazing people that help support and love us. I love this time of year for this reason. I started a new Thanksgiving tradition with my boys this year. In the past I have joined in the social media games of posting what I am thankful for each day. And then you forget and have to catch up putting 3-4 things you’re thankful for in a post all at once. Cute and fun, but I wanted something I could not only make a game but ritual I would remember to do with my boys each day. While shopping for holiday decorations one weekend, I found a fun pumpkin chalk board at the Dollar Tree. On the top it says, “I am thankful for…”

On Halloween day, I ask my boys to start thinking about something they are thankful for. As well as, explain what “thankful” truly means. On the 1st of November, I ask my boys what they are thankful for. It has been interesting to hear some of the answers I get each day. Of course, it started out with naming off family and pets, but some days the answers they give you just makes you smile. It also has reminded me to stop and enjoy some of the small things in life, such as rain or sunshine or laughter. I have really enjoyed doing this game with the boys this year and plan to continue it each year for now on. I would love to hear some of your Thanksgiving traditions.
