  • Just Breathe

    Just Breathe

Breathing is something we do every moment of every day, yet we often take it for granted. We rarely stop to consider the impact that our breath has on our physical and mental wellbeing. However, taking time to focus on your breath can be one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve your health and wellbeing.

    The Importance of Breathing

Breathing is essential for our survival, as it provides the body with oxygen and removes waste products. When we breathe, our lungs take in oxygen, which is then transported to the bloodstream and carried to all the organs and tissues in our body. The oxygen is used by the body to produce energy, which is necessary for all bodily functions.

In addition to providing oxygen, breathing also plays a crucial role in regulating our stress levels. When we experience stress or anxiety, our body goes into a fight or flight response. This response triggers the release of stress hormones, which can have negative effects on our physical and mental health. However, by slowing down our breathing, we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for calming the body and reducing stress.

    The Benefits of Breathing

Taking time to breathe each day can have a range of physical and mental health benefits. Here are just a few:

    1. Reduces stress and anxiety: As mentioned earlier, slowing down your breathing can help to reduce stress and anxiety levels. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, you can lower your heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and promote relaxation.
    2. Improves concentration and focus: When we are stressed or anxious, our mind can become scattered, making it difficult to concentrate. However, by focusing on your breath, you can bring your attention back to the present moment and improve your concentration and focus.
    3. Boosts the immune system: Deep breathing can also help to improve the immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells, which are responsible for fighting off infections and diseases.
    4. Enhances athletic performance: Proper breathing techniques can also enhance athletic performance by improving endurance, reducing fatigue, and increasing oxygen intake.
    5. Improves sleep: Deep breathing can also help to improve sleep by promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels.

    How to Practice Breathing

There are several breathing techniques that you can try to improve your health and wellbeing. Here are a few to get you started:

    1. Diaphragmatic breathing: Also known as belly breathing, this technique involves breathing deeply into your belly rather than your chest. To practice diaphragmatic breathing, place one hand on your belly and one hand on your chest. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your belly to expand. Exhale slowly through your mouth, allowing your belly to deflate.
    2. Box breathing: This technique involves inhaling for a count of four, holding your breath for a count of four, exhaling for a count of four, and holding your breath for a count of four. Repeat this cycle for several minutes.
    3. Alternate nostril breathing: This technique involves closing one nostril with your finger and inhaling deeply through the other nostril. Then, close the other nostril and exhale through the first nostril. Repeat this cycle, alternating nostrils each time.

In conclusion, taking time to breathe each day is one of the simplest and most effective ways to improve your physical and mental health. By slowing down your breathing, you can reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and focus, boost the immune system, enhance athletic performance, and improve sleep. So, take a deep breath, and enjoy the many benefits that come with focusing on your breath.

  • Mindful Positivity

    Mindful Positivity

Hello there, fellow dreamers and doers! Let’s talk about the power of positive thinking and how it can transform your life.

You see, the way we think has a profound impact on the way we experience the world around us. If we constantly focus on the negative, we’ll find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and stuck in a rut. But if we shift our focus to the positive, breathe, work in the present, we open ourselves up to endless possibilities and a whole new world of opportunities.

It’s all about mindset. When we choose to think positively today, we create a ripple effect that touches every aspect of our lives. Suddenly, challenges become opportunities for growth, setbacks become stepping stones towards success, and we start to see the world in a whole new light.

But how do we cultivate a positive mindset? It starts with gratitude. When we take the time to appreciate the good things in our lives, no matter how small they may seem, we create a positive foundation on which to build our thoughts and actions.

From there, it’s about choosing our thoughts carefully. When a negative thought creeps in, we can acknowledge it, but then consciously choose to focus on something positive instead. We can reframe our thoughts, focus on solutions rather than problems, and look for the silver lining in every situation.

And of course, it’s important to surround ourselves with positivity as well. Seek out people, experiences, and media that uplift you and inspire you to be your best self.

So, my fellow dreamers and doers, I encourage you to embrace the power of positive thinking. Focus on gratitude, choose your thoughts carefully, and surround yourself with positivity. With the right mindset, there’s nothing you can’t achieve. So go out there and make your dreams a reality!

  • Finding Joy

    Finding Joy

What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

Please answer in the comments below! I always love to hear what brings joy to others.

For me….My joy comes from a few key things in my life. Most importantly, my children and my husband are my world. They bring me so much happiness and I feel incredibly lucky to have them in my life. My husband is not only my partner in life, but also my best friend. We share so many interests and enjoy spending time together. I also have a wonderful group of mom friends who I cherish and who provide great support and understanding.

Reading is another big source of joy for me. I love getting lost in a good book and exploring new worlds and perspectives. When I need to unwind and de-stress, I also enjoy spending time in nature. Camping, hiking or simply taking in the beauty around me helps me feel centered and connected to the world around me.

Staying healthy and balanced is important to me, so I also prioritize exercise and meditation. Moving my body and clearing my mind through meditation helps me feel my best and tackle whatever challenges come my way. All of these elements of my life bring me great joy and fulfillment, and I feel grateful for all of them every day.

Understanding what brings you joy and happiness is essential to leading a fulfilling and satisfying life. When you are aware of the things that make you happy, you can prioritize them and make time for them in your life. This, in turn, can improve your overall well-being and sense of purpose.

Recognizing what brings you joy and happiness can also help you make more informed decisions about how you spend your time and energy. For example, if spending time with friends and family brings you the most joy, you may prioritize social activities over other commitments. Or, if you find that pursuing creative endeavors brings you the most happiness, you may decide to make time for these activities even if they are not part of your job.

Moreover, understanding what brings you joy and happiness can help you set goals and work towards achieving them. When you have a clear sense of what makes you happy, you can set realistic and achievable goals that align with your values and passions. This can provide a sense of purpose and direction in life, which can improve your overall happiness and well-being.

On the other hand, if you are unaware of what brings you joy and happiness, you may find yourself feeling unfulfilled or lacking in direction. You may spend time and energy on activities that do not align with your values or passions, which can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction and unhappiness.

In conclusion, recognizing and understanding what brings you joy and happiness is crucial for living a fulfilling and satisfying life. It can help you prioritize the things that matter most to you, make informed decisions about how you spend your time and energy, and set goals that align with your values and passions. Ultimately, this can improve your overall well-being and sense of purpose.

    2023 Valentines Games

Well the “I Love You” & “You’re Awesome Because” Game has come to an end for another year. One of favorite games to do for my kids, husband, and staff every year. 14 days to tell someone why you love them or why they are so awesome.

It was SO fun to be able to do this game with our amazing Parents at CTCS for the CTCS Staff this year. Love to spread kindness and positivity like confetti. You never know who really may need those words of encouragement. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  • Epiphany Activities

    Epiphany Activities

Happy Epiphany! We each picked out our mantras for the year as our guiding lights to embrace. There were 25 to pick from and our 5 were Compassion, Imagination, Song, Peace, and Grace. If you want to do this with your family, here is the list of 25 to start with: Grace; Mercy; Love; Faithfulness; Peace; Patience; Kindness; Joy; Rest; Adventure; Attention; Imagination; Faith; Compassion; Friendship; Song; Art; Generosity; Time; Humility; Persistence; Dedication; Inspiration; Comfort; Wholeness. Each family member picks one.

The boys left out hay, carrots and water for the camels and made sure the wise men had snacks to enjoy on their travels. They also wanted to light a candle to represent the North Star.

When they awoke the next morning, there were treats for them that the wise men left on their way.

We did our chalk blessing for the house this weekend. Here is the link if you would want to do the same.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families!

  • A Tale of Two Christmas Science Projects

A Tale of Two Christmas Science Projects

    Potato Inertia Experiment

With a Potato, Knife, and mallet, stick the knife about an inch into the potato. Using the mallet, tap the handle of the knife with the potato hanging at the bottom of the knife. See what happens?

This is a clear example of Newton’s First Law of Motion. Inertia is a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force. When the potato is set in motion it has a tendency to stay in motion. Then, when the knife suddenly stops, the potato keeps moving. Inertia is a tendency for an object to keep on doing whatever its doing. When a mass is at rest, it resists anything trying to change its position (that is positively or negatively accelerate it). When a mass is set in motion it has a tendency to keep moving and resist anything that will change its motion.

    Star Toothpick Experiment

All you need is toothpicks, a plate, a dropper, and water. Break toothpicks in half and lay bend toothpicks in a circle. Add drops of water and watch the magic. Due to cohesion (the ability of water molecules to be attracted to other water molecules) and the capillary action (the movement of water within the spaces of a porous material due to the forces of adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension) the toothpicks expand and form a star.

As the wood absorbs the water, each individual toothpick tries to straighten itself as the soaked fibers expand. This straightening action causes the toothpick ends to push against each other. As the toothpicks straighten and push against each other, the inside of the star opens up into the final star shape.

    4 cups flour
    1 cup table salt

    1.5 cups water

    How-to:
