Welcome! I’m Leslie Richards, the creative mind behind the beloved children’s books “Elves on a Mission” and the newly released “Aurora,” which launched in September 2024. Originally hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, I’ve since made Yakima, Washington my home—a place where my life is filled with family, creativity, and the magic of storytelling.
My journey as a storyteller didn’t begin overnight. With a degree from the University of South Alabama (Class of 2009), I first built a career as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. I’ve spent years helping seniors rediscover joy through therapeutic recreation, and today I work as a recreation program supervisor, organizing community events and activities that bring people together. My work with seniors has shaped my ability to connect with others, a theme that resonates in my writing.
Storytelling became my creative outlet, transitioning from a decade of blogging about family life, cherished recipes, and crafty projects to crafting full-length magical tales. My passion for storytelling led to the creation of “Elves on a Mission,” a heartwarming story that’s captured the imaginations of readers of all ages. Most recently, my book “Aurora” transports readers to the Arctic, where a brave musk ox and her friends team up to save Christmas in an unforgettable adventure.
When I’m not working or writing, I’m enjoying life with my wonderful husband and our three energetic children, who never fail to inspire my creativity. Our home is also graced by two playful cats—a tuxedo cat and an orange tabby—who add their own touch of chaos and charm to our daily lives.
Beyond my love for storytelling, I’m passionate about yoga and meditation, which keep me grounded amidst the busy demands of family and career. I’m an avid reader, with books as constant companions, and a devoted lover of nature, always seeking out those moments that fill life with wonder. Holidays are my favorite time of year, offering endless inspiration for infusing magic and joy into everyday moments.
As an author, my goal is to create stories that spark the imagination, instill values of kindness and teamwork, and leave readers with a sense of wonder. My vibrant writing style reflects my own enthusiasm for life and storytelling, and I invite you to explore the magical worlds I’ve created in “Elves on a Mission” and “Aurora.”
