There’s something so magical about October evenings. The scent of cinnamon candles in the air, a cool breeze sneaking through the open window, and the sound of my kids’ laughter as we pull out our craft supplies. Oh, the amazing crafts the fall season brings.
Halloween is one of my favorite times to slow down, create, and make a little seasonal magic together. This week, we made the sweetest felt Halloween banner, and I couldn’t love it more. For less than $5, we turned a few simple supplies into a festive piece of décor that makes our home feel ready for trick-or-treaters and even better, it’s a craft all my kids could proudly help make.

🧵 What You’ll Need:
Felt cutouts of black cats 🐈⬛
Felt cutouts of orange pumpkins 🎃
Felt Halloween stickers (pumpkins, bats, cats, whatever makes you smile!)
Twine A hole punch
Optional: a sprinkle of glitter glue or a ribbon bow for extra sparkle
🎨 How to Make Your Halloween Banner:
Lay it all out. Spread out your felt cutouts on the table. Mix up the black cats and orange pumpkins however you like. I let the kids take turns choosing the order, and of course, we had a little debate over whether to start with a pumpkin or a cat! Add some personality. Let your kids decorate the larger felt pieces with Halloween stickers. Each pumpkin and cat gets its own little story…one had a cat friend, another wore a bat bow. Punch and thread. Carefully punch a small hole near the top of each cutout. Then, thread your twine through each one, spacing them out so your banner drapes nicely. Hang it up! Once everything’s strung, hang your banner across the mantle or above the door frame, a window, or even along your front porch. We hung ours in our den door frame where we spend most of our time. Every time I see it, it makes me smile.
It’s not just about the banner, it’s about the moment. Sitting together, sticky fingers from stickers, laughing over who used too many bats, and admiring our finished creation when it’s all done. These are the memories I hold onto, the giggles, the teamwork, and the sparkle in their eyes when they say, “We made that!”
For less than $5, we got an evening full of creativity and connection and a banner I’ll pack away gently after Halloween to pull out next year, remembering this sweet season of their childhood.
So grab your felt cutouts, twine, and your favorite little monsters and make a little Halloween magic together. 🖤🎃
