With the upcoming release of “Aurora,” I wanted to take you behind the scenes to share how I brought the character of Aurora, the brave musk ox, to life. Creating a character that resonates with readers, especially in a heartwarming Christmas story, was both a challenging and deeply rewarding process. Aurora isn’t just any musk ox; she’s a symbol of courage, kindness, and the magic that the holiday season brings.

The idea for Aurora started as a simple thought: What if a musk ox, a creature known for its strength and resilience, could also be a symbol of warmth, kindness, and the spirit of giving? From this initial spark, Aurora began to take shape—a musk ox who, despite the challenges of the Arctic, has a heart full of love and a determination to help those around her.

Aurora’s name was inspired by the aurora borealis, the beautiful Northern Lights that illuminate the Arctic skies. Just like the lights, Aurora shines brightly in the story, guiding others with her kindness and courage.

Creating a character like Aurora involved more than just giving her a role in the story. I wanted her to be someone readers could connect with, someone who embodies the qualities we admire during the holiday season. Aurora is strong yet gentle, determined yet compassionate. She faces challenges head-on but always keeps the well-being of others in mind.

To make Aurora relatable, I drew on real-life traits of musk oxen—such as their protective nature and strong sense of community. In the wild, musk oxen form tight-knit herds, working together to survive in the harsh Arctic environment. This sense of togetherness and support is central to Aurora’s character, reflecting the importance of family, friendship, and community during the holidays.

Once Aurora’s personality was defined, the next step was bringing her to life visually. I used AI to help generate the illustrations, guiding the process with detailed prompts that reflected Aurora’s traits. The result is a character who is not only visually striking but also brimming with the warmth and magic of the Christmas season.

Each illustration of Aurora was crafted to capture her spirit—a blend of strength and softness. Her gentle eyes, sturdy frame, and the glow of the Northern Lights around her make her a character that stands out on the page and invites readers into her world.

Aurora’s story is one of growth, learning, and discovering the true meaning of Christmas. Throughout the book, Aurora embarks on a journey that tests her strength and challenges her beliefs.
