I don’t know who decided that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but they are sadly mistaken.
We had to put down our Griffon, Jerry Garcia, on Nov 8th. He was 11 1/2 years old. He had cancer and became septic. He was not only a great hunting companion, but he was my running buddy. Our whole family misses him terribly and it’s just not the same in the house without him. Our Sheepdog, Bob, I know misses him the most. They were brothers for 11 years.

Since then, Bob and I have been taking lots of walks. And just on a whim a week ago, I thought to myself let’s see if Bob will run. So let me let you in on Bob’s idea of fitness. For years, Bob has only enjoyed taking leisurely strolls through park. With about three 5 minute breaks under the trees during the walk. He hasn’t been a running dog in over 5 years.
So a week ago, I started a jogging pace just to see. And he did it. We ran 8 blocks. 8 BLOCKS! I was so impressed. Then a few days later, we tried running a mile at the park. And he did it. Today, we ran one of Jerry’s and my running routes, which is a little over 3 miles. I was so proud of him. He was so happy too.
So you CAN teach old dogs new tricks. Just wanted to share my happiness for today! Hope everyone is having a good one! Sending lots of positivity and kindness!
