Oh, Thanksgiving! One of my favorite holidays, not only for the food but also the decorations and time to spend with family. Each year, I love to have my dinner table beautifully decorated with leaves, gourds and pumpkins.
I taught a class this past week about making Pumpkin Succulent Centerpieces. I thought I would share, if someone is looking for something new and fresh to add to their Thanksgiving table decor. It’s a pretty simple centerpiece to make and the succulents will continue to thrive and grow after the Thanksgiving Season.

Pumpkin Succulent Centerpiece
You’ll Need:
1 Sugar Pie Pumpkin
3 – 2.5″ Succulent Plants (preferably ones that have more than one bud in the pots)
Moss
Hot Glue
Fall decor (acorns, leaves, etc.)
Scissors
Paint
Paintbrushes
How to:
Wash off the outside of your pumpkin and peel any stickers or tags off of the pumpkin. Cut out a 4″x4″ square of moss. In the center of the moss, cut an 1″x1″ “X” for the pumpkin stem to go through. Place your moss with the pumpkin stem going through the “X” of the moss. With your hot glue, glue the moss onto the top of your pumpkin.
Take your scissors and puncture small holes in your moss, not the pumpkin, to set you Succulent plants in. You are able to break up your succulent plants as long as there is a clean break on the plant leaves and stems. With you succulents, hot glue them around the moss in the spaces you have made holes for into the moss. Using your fall decor, add a little extra flare onto the pumpkin to make it more Thanksgiving Festive! To continue letting the succulents thrive and grow, spritz (not drown) your pumpkin every 2-3 days or as needed.

After you have glued on all of the fall decor, moss and succulents. Using a paint brush, paint your family’s initial onto the front of the pumpkin for a lovely touch!
Once your pumpkin begins to decompose, slice the top of the pumpkin off with the moss and succulents and place in flower bed or planter with soil. The Succulent will continue to survive and grow, as long as you remember to spritz with water every 2-3 days or as needed.

Happy Thanksgiving!
